St. Augustine Pavilion

The simple rectangle o the St. Augustine Pavilion is sliced like folded paper, retaining simplicity while incorporating dynamic diagonal tensions. Asingle concrete plane comprises floors, walls an ceiling, and enfolds a rectangular room that frames a panoramic view of the park. The resulting structure is design-conscious yet durable, and requires minimum maintenance. Exterior walls are painted white, distinguishing the geometric mass from the organic park setting. The grain of the wood formwork is imprinted into the concrete on the inside walls, helping to express a warmer quality inside the pavilion. Seating fixtures within mirror the strong and simple form of the pavilion walls. The zigzag shape of the opening allows for the elegant flow of nature between outside and inside.
